Day 5 of the tennis and baseball camp kicked off with setting up the baseball field. Thanks to all hands on deck from our volunteers, we successfully set the bases, split the teams, distributed jerseys, coordinated batting and fielding lineups, and stood at home plate for the Dominican Republic national anthem. The 6-to-9-year-olds were incredibly excited to finally play a real game and put their new skills to the test. A second game for the 10-to-16-year-old boys followed later in the morning, with 28 teenagers participating in total. At the end of each game, awards were presented to the winning teams before we departed for the TEARS Center at noon.
Excitement was also building for the final day of tennis, a highly anticipated event for everyone. After a quick lunch, we walked over to set up the multi-activity competition for the younger children. Led by our volunteers, the competition featured four teams, each with its own leader. The younger girls brought amazing energy, cheering for their teammates throughout the entire event. Afterward, the teenage girls' tennis matches got underway. Although we experienced four hours of heavy rain that started during the matches and lasted until 7:00 PM, it couldn't dampen our spirits. Overall, we saw incredible sportsmanship; every participant received a camp certificate, and special awards were presented to the most outstanding players.
