2024 Varsity Bible Church Team Trip
Day 2 : Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Wavesledge
November in the Dominican Republic is the start of the rainy season. Though our day started with heavy rains we were greeted with the skies opening and beautiful sunshine when we arrived at the Early Childhood Center (ECC) in the barrio. However, the true sunshine we witnessed today was the sunshine in the eyes and smiles of the children who greeted us in their classrooms!!! We were blessed to share in their crafts, activities and serving their lunch. The ECC opened 3 years ago and provides a stimulating, development environment for 80 children of the barrio between 18 months and three years.
Day 1 : We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Hola from Maria Auxiliadora! Today we got the chance to tour the aquaponics program, the high school, health clinic, went into the barrio, the elementary school, and primary school! At the elementary school they have a theme for the month - November's theme is : La Familia y el Buen Trato - family and treating each other well. As we were visiting all these programs what stood out was the connection and relationships that were at the heart of every program - the true essence of what it means to treat each other well as whole people. Taking care of their minds, hearts, souls and bodies.
